A hot air balloon hits a power line in Minnesota and three passengers fall

Such a hot air balloon struck a power line in Rochester, Minnesota.and started a small brush fire that reportedly sent three passengers to the ground.

The individuals, who have not yet been identified, were in the basket of the balloon when it detached and fell 20 to 30 feet to the ground, according to reports. None of the passengers were seriously injured, but two reported minor injuries, officials said.

A gust of wind reportedly pushed the balloon off course as the pilot attempted to land in a nearby field, causing the collision over Highway 63 at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished a small fire which sparkled near where the basket landed.

The Smoke Eaters also reported meeting passengers, one of whom confirmed he was the balloon pilot, and they found that there were no serious injuries in the accident.

Video taken by the Minnesota Department of Transportation shows the balloon descending over the freeway before a bright ball of light shines and the wind lifts the balloon up.

The second part of the video also shows smoke rising from the collision area.

The balloon was located several miles from the bin after it floated away and will be examined by the National Transportation Safety Board as part of its investigation in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration.
