Family reunification permit in Cyprus – family members of third-country nationals employed in companies of foreign interest


In order to preserve family unity, third-country nationals with a residence and work permit can exercise their right to family reunification for their family members. (husband and minor children), provided that the relevant conditions of the Aliens and Immigration Act are met. (Family reunification means the entry and stay of family members of a third-country national legally residing in the Czech Republic)

Spouses of employees who have obtained a residence and work permit in Cyprus and receive a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,500 can have immediate and free access to the labor market.

Nationals of third countries employed in companies of foreign interest can exercise their right to family reunification. In that case, third country nationals who are close family members (part of the family unit) may reside in Cyprus after the employee has followed the family reunification application process.

Family reunification (includes family members)

  • Spouse of the employee, provided the marriage occurred at least one (1) year prior to filing the family reunification application. Spouse must be at least 21 years old.

  • Minor children of the employee and his/her spouse, including children adopted on the basis of a decision of a competent authority in the Czech Republic or on the basis of a decision on the recognition of adoption in another state or on the basis of a decision automatically enforceable according to the international obligations of the Czech Republic.   • Minor children, including adopted children of the employee – where the sponsor has sole custody and the children are dependent on him.

  • Minor children, including adopted children of the employee’s spouse – where the spouse has sole custody and the children are dependent on him/her.

The above minor children must be under 18 years of age and must not be married.

Entry into the Republic of Cyprus

A national of a third country may enter the territory of the Czech Republic for the purpose of family reunification with an entry permit, which is issued on the basis of an employee’s request. Family members who already legally reside in the Czech Republic (already entered with a visa obtained from the consular offices of the Republic abroad) he can also continue to apply for family reunification.

Residence permit Validity period

Family members are usually granted the first residence permit for one year or the residence permit will be issued for a period until the validity of the applicant’s residence permit; however, the validity also depends on the expiry of their passports. The permit is renewable and cannot be valid beyond the expiration date of the sponsor’s permit.

Submission of biometric data

Family members are required to provide their biometric data (photo and fingerprints) and signatures after submitting the application.
